WELCOME!!!

So excited to start of this year!  Finally!  Here is what we have in store for the semester.

I am planning on making this course a little different then I have before.  You are going to be shown a bunch of different mediums to choose from at the beginning of the year and those are the mediums you are able to explore and try out on any of your assignments.  I will give demonstrations on an as needed basis.  I think this will give everyone more freedom to try the things they think look cool and stick around some mediums that they find successful.  BUT you do have to explore some new mediums, since Art 3 is about coming up with a personal style and knowing what is out there.  So from 1 lesson to the next you some how have to switch up your medium.  You can come up with mixed media projects and things I don't even show you.  Have fun with it and try your hardest.

I will be giving you themes this year for your assignments and you can go whichever way you want with them.  They will be very vague.

I want everyone's artworks to look unique and creative in their own way.  No 2 artworks should remotely resemble each other.  I think you will all enjoy this course with having some freedom to choose from a bunch of different mediums.

I can't wait for to see what you are all capable of.

THEME #1:  REFLECTIONS

Please dig deep to find something unique and different that also reflects you in some way, as all of your artworks should.

Final Project

You get to choose from 1 of the following 3 assignments as your final for Art 3.  Remember at this point all other assignments are due by the end of the Quarter unless I have told you personally otherwise.

On both of these options, I want you to research and discover your own interpretation of each.  They can both be interpreted in many ways.  Let's see what you can come up with.  I don't want you to copy something straight from the internet.  I want to see your creative side and what you can come up with.

Choice #1:
Create a picture within a picture.  You can interpret this as hidden imagery or 2 images that somehow relate to the same theme.  Drawing must be no smaller then 12x18.  Must show great use of value-going from dark to light-you can not use solid colors.  Showing great value shows me that you are at the advanced level and that you are ready to move onto Art 4.

Choice #2:
Create an artwork that shows Emphasis on one particular thing.  Drawing must be no smaller then 12x18.  I should clearly be able to tell what image is the image you are emphasizing.  You must show me great use of value as well, like I said in Choice #1.

Choice #3:
Showcase the 4 different seasons into one artwork in your own way.  You can show the actual nature of the seasons or you can depict the seasons in a unique way using images or people.

For any of these assignments I am giving you the opportunity to use Oil Paints.  I will have to give you some major tips that you must know in order to use them.  And for those of you who are unaware of oil paints, Oil Paints are what I use on all of my paintings.  They stay wet for weeks, but the nice thing is you can come back the next day and mix into the colors you were working on the day before.

All of these projects will be done on drawing paper or painting paper.  We have all used the canvas boards at this point, so lets stick with paper for this one.

One last thing, ALL OF YOUR ARTWORKS NEED TO BE DONE FROM UNIQUE OR DIFFERENT ANGLES.  DIFFERENT THEN THE NORM.  AND YOU SHOULD USE YOUR OWN IMAGERY UNLESS DOING YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING YOU CAN NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF.

Welcome!

Welcome to Art 3/4 with Mrs. Schneid
This class focuses on exploring different art mediums.  You are encouraged to become your own artist and find your own style of art that reflects who you are in this class.  When your art is hung people should be able to tell who the artist is by the style they use within their art.  You will develop this along the way if you do not already know your own personal style.  You will use several different types of mediums from Acrylic Paints, Oil Paints, Encaustic wax Paintings, Different drawing mediums and much more.  This class is designed for students that have a unique talent and love for art.  It is self driven and paced.  I look forward to seeing what you created throughout this semester.

Assignment #1

A Triptych is a series of 3 pictures that go together as one.

Artwork by Mrs. Schneid
You will be using the medium that you feel most comfortable with and you will be choosing a subject that you feel represents your creative side, your personality, your artistic style or just something you always wanted to create.  You will also be choosing your size based on your vision.

Guidelines:
1.  The images on all 3 panels must go off the edge of the page.
2.  All three panels must correlate with one another.
3.  You need to show great detail in your drawing technique or in your painting style.
4.  Lastly you must follow the creativity rules.

Silhouettes

We are going to do something a little different- you will be coming out of you comfort zone of using paint on paper.  Let's take a look at a famous artist and see how we can replicate what she has down within out school.  This will be a group project.

KARA WALKER

Kara Walker (American, b. 1969) is best known for her room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes that examine the underbelly of America's racial and gender tensions. Her works often address such highly charged themes as power, repression, history, race and sexuality.

Walker began creating pieces in order to tell a story or make a statement rather than achieve beauty or perfection. "I guess there was a little bit of a slight rebellion, maybe a little bit of a renegade desire that made me realize at some point in my adolescence that I really liked pictures that told stories of things—genre paintings, historical paintings—the sort of derivatives we get in contemporary society,"
